Born: September 1, 1967, Jackson, Tennessee
Musical Influences: The Beatles, Elvis Costello, Nirvana
Early Life: Growing up half-Jewish in redneck country, Bubba made his way through school trying to get along with everybody. He could shoot both guns and basketballs with accuracy, and claimed friends from both the band and the football team.
In the 1984-1985 basketball season, he set a Jackson Central High School record for most points by a member of the audio-visual squad for both a game (11), and a season (54).
Musically, Bubba started playing trumpet in fifth grade, but gave up formal musical training after a couple of years because he "got tired of playing the kind of crap the school wanted its band to play."
Despite his lack of a formal musical background, Bubba was able to land a spot on the Jackson Civic Orchestra by winning a local audition when he was 17. "I really needed some money at the time, and that would bring in an extra $45.00 a week," Bubba recalls. "I got lucky. While I had tried to brush up on trumpet before the audition, I knew I was still rusty. Lucky for me everyone else really sucked."
